Havana, Feb 7 (RHC) Cuba could increase the presence of women in the National Assembly of People's Power and become the second country in the world with the largest number of women parliamentarians.

On its Twitter account, the Communist Party of Cuba (@PartidoPCC) points out that among the 470 candidates for deputies, nominated last Sunday to the National Assembly in the municipal government bodies with a view to the 10th Legislature, 55.3 percent are women.

This percentage represents almost two points more in comparison with the current composition of the Parliament of the Island.

If this candidacy is approved, in the March 26 elections for the 10th Legislature of the National Assembly, Cuba would have the second Parliament with more women in the world.

According to data from the World Economic Forum, the country with the highest female presence is Rwanda, with 61.3 percent of the legislators: followed in descending order by Cuba (53.4), Nicaragua (50.6), Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates, both with 50 percent. New Zealand (49.2), Iceland (47.6), Grenada, and South Africa with 46.7 percent.
