Prominent Cuban journalist Paquita Armas passes away

Havana, Feb 27 (RHC) Cuban journalist and writer Paquita Armas Fonseca died in this capital on Monday, the Cubadebate website reported.

She was born in 1950 in the eastern province of Holguin and graduated with a degree in journalism from the Universidad de Oriente in 1977.

During her professional career, she specialized in cultural journalism, mainly in film, radio, and television.

She was a member of the executive of the radio and television film association at the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) since 1994.

Paquita served as editor-in-chief of the Somos Jovenes and El Caimán Barbudo magazines and directed the latter from 1984 to 1988.

Her articles on Marxism appear in El Caiman Barbudo, La Jiribilla, Juventud Rebelde, Bohemia, and in publications in other countries such as Spain, Mexico, and Ecuador.

In recent times, she published her works on La Jiribilla, Cubadebate, and the Cuban television’s website.

Among the awards that she received was the Distinction for National Culture, the Caracol Award, and the July 26 Award, granted by the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC). (Source: PL)
