Blind and Visually Impaired Demand End to Inhumane Blockade

Havana, March 11 (RHC) During the IV National Plenary Session of the Association of the Blind in Cuba (ANCI), they demanded the immediate end of the cruel and inhumane blockade of the United States towards our country, a policy that directly impacts their quality of life and access to technologies and equipment.

The issue was the focus of the debate at the Havana Convention Palace where they unanimously emphasized their position of rejection.

The national president of the ANCI, Jorge Luis Cala Ledesma, summarized the commitment to the Revolution and the notable affectations of its affiliates due to the economic siege.

Other issues with equal rigor were discussed such as the incorporation to work and education, the practice of sports disciplines and presence in international scenarios and access to culture and recreation, to contribute to the social inclusion of visually impaired people, an achievement of the Revolution that marks challenges for the Association of the Blind.

Jorge Luis Cala, National President of ANCI in our country, also spoke about the challenges and goals that accompanied his work in 2022, impacted by COVID-19 and meteorological events such as Hurricane Ian.

At the meeting, which until March 9 was held in the Cuban capital, the main objectives of the Organization founded in July 1975 were discussed, together with the priorities that will guide its more than 30 thousand affiliates in 2023. Management in constant contact with the Cuban Association of United Nations assured its representative Norma Goicochea Estévez.

In the last minutes, those present approved three new regulations on the functioning of the organization, a step forward for ANCI on the road to contributing to the social inclusion of visually impaired people in Cuba (Source: Radio Rebelde).
