Cuba contributed to 28th Iberoamerican Summit

Havana, March 23 (RHC) Cuba has played an active role during the most recent work cycle of the mechanism for political coordination and cooperation, with numerous proposals to bring the agreements of the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government closer to the interests of the southern nations.

This was highlighted by Yailín Castro Loredo, an official of the General Directorate of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex), regarding the meeting that will take place on March 24 and 25 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The specialist told the Cuban Presidency that the island has worked so that the final documents of the Summit recognize aspects such as cooperation to mitigate the effects of climate change, reduce digital gaps in developing countries, and improve national capacities to guarantee food security and sovereignty.

Castro Loredo recalled that Cuba, a founding member of the Ibero-American Conference, grants special importance to this forum, as it constitutes an already consolidated space for cooperation, with activities backed by more than thirty years of work.

She also highlighted Cuba’s active participation in some of the programs, initiatives and projects attached to Ibero-American cooperation, which have favored the development of the capacities of the Member States, and in particular of the countries in development.

The diplomat stressed that Cuba's participation in this 28th Ibero-American Summit cannot be separated from the high responsibility as president of the Group of 77 plus China, which is made up of 134 southern nations.

She stated that Cuba hopes that the Ibero-American Conference will pronounce itself, as it has done historically, to denounce the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government and the inclusion of the island in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

Regarding the challenges of the Summit in a post-pandemic world, the Minrex official referred to strengthening all cooperation programs, in order to achieve true inclusive cooperation that allows access to financial transfers, technologies, resources necessary to effectively move towards sustainable development.
