Iranian ambassador highlights Cuba's commitment to the Palestinian cause
Havana, April 20 (RHC) - The Iranian ambassador in Havana, Seyed Mohammad Hadi Sobhani, praised the commitment of the Cuban people and government in defense of the Palestinian cause and its constant denunciation of Israel's aggressions.
The diplomat warned that countries that defend peace should not remain impassive in the face of the Tel Aviv attacks.
Hadi Sobhani highlighted the historical significance of the date established in August 1979 by Imam Khomeini in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, which is celebrated every year on the last Friday of holy Ramadan, the ninth month of the lunar calendar.
This, he assured, is a movement founded to fight "against the global arrogance led by the United States and the apartheid regime of Israel."
On that day, he emphasized, Muslims and freedom fighters around the world take to the streets to condemn the Israeli government's occupation, torture and crimes against humanity, as well as the bombing of civilian targets and the murder of young protesters demanding the withdrawal from their lands.
"During the last seven and a half decades, the Israeli apartheid regime occupied more than three quarters of Palestinian territory, displacing millions of inhabitants from their homes", the ambassador recalled.
He stressed that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, in one of his speeches said that the protest of the peoples of Europe and Latin American countries against this apartheid regime is a sign of their courage.
The Iranian diplomat recalled Khomeini's words when he referred to Israel as "the Zionist regime (…) a cancerous tumor that can only be removed through the uprising of Muslims and the oppressed of the world". (Source: Prensa Latina)
