Over 19,000 Guatemalans Benefit from Cuban Literacy Program

Guatemala City, August 28 (RHC) -– The Cuban literacy methodology known as 'Yes I Can' has helped 19,425 Guatemalans to read and write since 2007, according to the program's national coordinator, Vilma Monte-agudo.

According to the official, a total of 28 Cuban education workers are offering their services in six Guatemalan districts. The Cuban program has helped wipe out illiteracy in many countries of the world as statistics say that over 3.8 million people have benefited from the initiative, which is implemented in different languages.

The methodology has been applied in 34 nations, including Venezuela, Haití, Ecuador, Brazil, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Mozambique, Nigeria, Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.
