Havana, May 3 (RHC)-- Cuban Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Garcia reported Wednesday that the country has reached one million visitors so far this year.

In the context of the International Tourism Fair, FITCuba 2023, the minister explained that beyond the figure reached, the Caribbean nation is heading towards the recovery of the smokeless industry.

"The biggest difficulties affecting tourism on the island are the limitations due to air connectivity, despite the fact that 51 airlines currently travel to the country," he asserted.

"For that reason an important segment of FITCuba 2023 is dedicated to airlines to increase the capacity of seats traveling to the country," Garcia told the press.

He said that we have to focus on the arrival of new airlines to Cuba, since the arrival of cruise ships was affected after the unilateral measures adopted by the U.S. government during the administration of Donald Trump (2017-2021).

He recalled that at that time some 600 thousand travelers arrived by sea and many of them were Americans.

The minister also explained that heritage recovery in Havana, to whom the fair is dedicated, is not concentrated only in the capital's historic center.

"The difference of our heritage to many of preserved in the world is that it is a living heritage," he stressed.

"They are restaurants, hotels, homes. In other words, it is preserved alive and authentic," he said.

FITCuba 2023 is being held in Havana until the 5th and is the country's largest tourism showcase.
