Santiago de Chile, July 1 (RHC)-- Around 300 people participated in Santiago de Chile in a solidarity with Cuba peña, as part of the campaign developed this Saturday to raise funds, medicines and supplies destined to our country.

The activity was attended by members of the group of internationalists trained on the island, the association of residents in Chile Cuban Roots, the Siboney collective, the movement of solidarity with Cuba and other friends of the Revolution.

In declarations to Prensa Latina, Vasili Carrillo, one of the organizers, explained that the campaign began a month ago and is in salute to the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada barracks, an action that marked the beginning of the last and definitive stage of the struggle for the independence of the Caribbean nation.

The activities are going quite well, many people from other communes and regions have joined and initiatives will be developed in places like Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Temuco, Valdivia, Coquimbo, Iquique, Quillota, Antofagasta and Concepción, said Carrillo.

He informed that friends who live outside the country and members of trade union and social organizations are also participating.

The goal is to raise some 30,000 dollars to send donations to the island, explained Tania Tellería, president of the Raíces Cubanas association.

"The Cubans who live here are aware of the needs our country is going through as a result of the criminal blockade by the United States, which was further intensified during the pandemic," she said.

The peña, which lasted until early this morning, was enlivened by a group of artists such as Manuel Huerta, Patricio Callejas, Lautaro Pizarro, among others.
