Cuban president congratulates cultural workers

Havana, December 14 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated the island's cultural workers on the occasion of today's celebration of their day.  In his profile on the social network X, the president affirmed that these creators sustain with their work the spirituality, identity, and soul of the nation.

Díaz-Canel added to his message that of Culture Minister Alpidio Alonso, who noted that the date celebrates the birthday of Raúl Gómez García, the poet of the assault on the Moncada Barracks.

"Our congratulations and our embrace to the self-sacrificing workers of culture, protagonists of one of the most beautiful achievements of the Revolution," said Alpidio Alonso.

On the occasion of the Cuban Culture Day, in recent weeks, events were held throughout the country to recognize the work of the nation's writers and artists.

Raúl Gómez García (1928-1953) participated in the group whose mission was to occupy the Civil Hospital, as part of the actions of the assault on the Moncada Barracks (Santiago de Cuba, east), commanded by Fidel Castro on July 26, 1953 against the dictatorship of Fulgencia Batista (1952-1959).

After being wounded, he was arrested, tortured and finally assassinated by the forces of the Batista tyranny.

On July 23, 1953 he wrote the Moncada Manifesto in Santiago de Cuba. (Source: Prensa Latina)
