Cuba and the European Union begin dialogue on cooperation and renewable energies

Havana, April 23 (RHC) Representatives of Cuba and the European Union today installed the Cooperation Subcommittee in Brussels to evaluate bilateral ties, and exchanged criteria on the energy transition in the challenging scenario of climate change.

The parties thus continued the 4th Implementation Cycle of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement signed in 2016.

The Subcommittee will address the island's opportunities in the execution of the Global Gateway; as well as the European strategy to promote smart, clean and safe links worldwide in areas such as energy, transportation, health, education and research.

On the Cuban side, it is headed by Alba Rosa Alarcón, Director of Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment; while the EU side will be chaired by Félix Fernández-Shaw, Director of the European Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The agenda includes conversations about the development of renewable energy sources, in particular competitiveness and Cuba’s access to financing mechanisms; the prospects for investment from the EU in the Cuban biotechnology sphere; economic modernization; and common visions regarding female and youth empowerment.

The Cuban delegation reiterated the island's commitment to the implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the EU, and valued its relevance for a sincere and constructive approach to the most diverse issues. (Source: PL)
