Cuba reiterates its support to Caribbean nations affected by hurricane

Havana, Jul 11 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has reiterated his country's support for the Caribbean nations in the situation they are facing today after Hurricane Beryl hit the region.

Speaking the day before at the 10th Extraordinary Virtual Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas - Trade and Cooperation Agreement (ALBA-TCP), the head of state deplored the loss of life and material damage caused by this meteorological event.

We confirm that they can count on the modest support of Cuba, where we know very well the magnitude of these blows of nature against small island territories and their fragile economies, he said.

He pointed out that Cuban collaborators in these countries immediately joined and continue to support the recovery efforts of their governments.

This X ALBA-TCP Extraordinary Summit focused on the support of the member countries of this regional integration mechanism to the government of Luis Arce in the face of the recent coup attempt against Bolivia.

At the meeting, the Cuban leader stressed the need for unity in Latin America and the Caribbean in the face of the persistent attempts by U.S. imperialism to frustrate the independence processes in the region.

He also emphasized the validity and the need to defend with strength the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, approved ten years ago in Havana, during the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States. (Source: Prensa Latina)
