Havana, April 2 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has received the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, His Excellency Saeed Khatibzadeh, at the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

During the meeting, which took place in a cordial atmosphere, the brotherhood and solidarity between the two peoples and the positive progress of bilateral ties were highlighted.

The willingness to continue fostering relations in various areas of common interest, including economic, trade, and cooperation, was also reiterated.  Both sides discussed the unilateral coercive measures and other aggressions that the United States government and its allies apply against various countries.

The Cuban foreign minister updated the meeting on the impact of the blockade against Cuba and expressed his gratitude for Iran's traditional support for our people's demand for an end to this policy. He also reaffirmed his rejection of such measures that the Persian nation faces.

Rodríguez and Khatibzadeh also discussed the situation in the Middle East, the escalation of Israeli aggression, and the dangers to regional and international peace, stability, and security.

Also participating in the meeting were His Excellency Mr. Seyed Mohammad Hadi Sobhani, Ambassador of the Republic of Iran to Cuba, and Armando Vergara Bueno, Director of North Africa and the Middle East at the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

Cuba and Iran established relations on February 10, 1975.  They were interrupted in 1976 and reestablished in 1979, after the triumph of the Islamic Revolution.
