Havana, November 22 (RHC)-- Havana will host the 5th CARICOM-Cuba Summit, set for December 8th. The presence of heads of state or government from more than 15 Caribbean nations is expected at the Havana meeting, whose expressed aim is to discuss new integration mechanisms towards achieving higher productivity and a more prominent collective role of Caribbean nations on the international scene.

High on the meeting's agenda is fostering economic and trade relations in the framework of a common regional market and encouraging strengthened cooperation in areas such as education, culture and the industry.

A press release by the Cuban Foreign Ministry recalls that Cuba and CARICOM countries are united not only by geography, but by strong historical, cultural and friendship bonds. In that sense, the upcoming CARICOM-Cuba Summit will serve as an exceptional, unique space to further strengthen friendship and cooperation, at a time when the region is moving towards higher forms of integration within the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
