Havana, December 31 (RHC-Prensa Latina), -- The National Commission for Road Safety of Cuba passed a plan of actions to reduce the rate of traffic accidents, which left 665 fatalities this year, 63 more than in 2013.

The plan includes the implementation with greater severity of a group of actions included in the Law 109 of the Road Safety Code.

According to the newspaper Granma, the actions should begin by raising awareness of pedestrians who do not pay attention while crossing streets, carrying mobile phones or music player devices, and also drunk drivers.

Checking technical conditions of the vehicles will be intensified on streets, while documents or plates will be taken from drivers using vehicles with serious technical failures and absent or outdated Certificates of Technical Review on Vehicles.

Ministries of Interior, Transportation, Agriculture, Education and Public Health, as well as organizations such as the Workers Union of Cuba (CTC), the Communist Youth League (UJC), the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) and the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), participate in this endeavor to reduce accidents.
