Asunción, September 1 (RHC)-- The brigade of Cuban ophthalmologists who are offering their services in Paraguay under the cooperation program known as Operation Miracle continue their work, identifying patients who need the free eye-surgical procedure.

The head of the Cuban brigade, Dr. Carlos Alberto Perea, told Prensa Latina news agency that in Santa Rosa Department alone, the Cuban health collaborators have treated more than 400 eye patients, 93 of whom were identified as needing either cataract or pterygium surgeries.

One decade has already passed since the first brigade of Cuban ophthalmologists under the Operation Miracle program arrived in Paraguay to offer their services to low-income Paraguayan patients.

Launched jointly by Cuba and Venezuela in 2004, the free eye-surgery program has already restored or improved the eye-sight of more than 10 million people in Latin America, the Caribbean and beyond.
