Brussels, September 15 (RHC)-- The release of the five Cuban anti-terrorism fighters from US jails was a victory of justice and common sense, said Miguel Ángel Martínez, former Vice President of the European Parliament.

Martínez met in Brussels with visiting anti-terrorist and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo Hernández.

The European legislator stressed that the European Parliament's Friendship and Solidarity Group was formed well before the Cuban Five were arrested in the United States.

Martínez, the group's honorary president, stressed that the friendship and solidarity organization was created to defend Cuba against the so-called EU's common position on Cuba. “At that time,” he said, “we promoted normal, fair relations between the EU and Cuba as equals. But after the Cuban Five's unfair imprisonment in US jails, we urged the EU to act toward pressuring the US to put an end to the gross injustice.”
