Havana, September 20 (RHC)-- More than 300,000 people, among them believers and non-believers from across Cuba, pilgrims and personalities from around the world attended Pope Francis' first Mass in Cuba, held Sunday morning at the José Martí Revolution Square.

The Mass began at exactly 9:00 a.m. local time, but before that, and actually since his arrival in Cuba on Saturday afternoon, the Bishop of Rome has received countless gestures of profound affection, respect and hospitality from the people and government of Cuba.

The Pope's Mass was broadcast live on Cuban radio and television and on the international frequencies of Radio Havana Cuba.

According to the visit's agenda, Pope Francis is scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to Cuban President Raúl Castro this afternoon at the Revolution Palace.   Later, he will attend a Vesper Service at the Havana Cathedral in Old Havana, after which he will hold his first encounter with young Cubans, believers and non-believers at the Padre Félix Valera Cultural Center.
