Havana, October 1 (RHC)-- Visiting Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, toured the Havana-based Pedro Kurí Tropical Medicine Institute (IPK), where she met with members of the Cuban health brigades that fought the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

IPK’s main goals are to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, collaborate with international health institutes working in similar or related fields, and facilitate the development of biomedical research and training throughout Cuba.

Ever since 1980, and working jointly with the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), the prestigious IPK institute has trained nearly 100,000 scientists from Latin America, Africa, the United States, Canada and Europe.
