Havana, October 7 (RHC)-- U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker visited on Tuesday the Special Development Zone at Mariel Harbor, a project she described as “attractive.”

Pritzker arrived Tuesday in Havana to meet an agenda that includes talks with local authorities on the most recent steps announced by the U.S. administration towards Cuba.

At Mariel Harbor, the U.S. government official asked about the conditions of the port, the equipment being used and the scope of the services offered by the containers terminal, said Ana Teresa Igarza, director of the Special Development Zone.

In response to Pritzker's questions about the challenges faced by the new project, the Zone director said that the U.S. economic blockade is the major challenge since it inflicts fear in some companies when they want to invest in Cuba.

Pritzker said that her visit here is also aimed at better understanding how each side will work to reach a common point towards further advancement.

The U.S. government official, who was accompanied by a large delegation, also visited recently opened logistics facilities at the Special Development Zone.
