Paris, November 9 (RHC)-- Cuba will insist on the adoption of a binding agreement during the upcoming UN Climate Change Summit in Paris, France.

Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment Elba Rosa Pérez is currently in Paris, participating in a ministerial meeting, as part of preparations for the summit that is slated to begin later this month.

Addressing the meeting, she said that Cuba has plans to make changes to its energy program over the next several years to achieve both greater efficiency and savings. The Cuban minister added that the country is focusing more on renewable energy sources, including biomass, wind and solar energy, with the implementation of new strategies for the short, middle and long terms.

She also reiterated Cuba's unconditional support for the common position on climate change expressed by small island states and developing countries, which advocate an equitable, but differentiated treatment of the issue.
