New York, April 20 (RHC)— At the UN General Assembly in New York, Cuban representatives shared the island’s experiences in dealing with the drug problem.

The secretary of Cuban National Drug Commission, Israel Ibarra, tied Cuba’s results in dealing with the drug issue to political will of the authorities and a multidisciplinary approach, involving different agencies and the population. The Cuban anti-drug work, he said, is guided as well by a concern for human health, prevention, and zero tolerance for drug-related crimes.
The UN General Assembly’s Special Session on drugs continued Wednesday with the participation of delegates from 50 countries, including several from Latin America and the Caribbean.

The high-level forum also features panels on reducing drug supply and demand, the response to drug-related crimes and international cooperation.
