Varadero, December 4 (RHC/Prensa Latina)-- The challenge of safe foods based on biotechnology are the focus of debates during Biotechnology Havana 2017, that began in Varadero on Monday, with participating specialists from more than 30 countries.

Under the slogan “Agricultural Biotechnology in the 21st Century,” the event will bring together researchers from almost every country in Latin America, the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.

At a press conference, Cuban scientist Mario Estrada, president of the organizing committee, said that the theme of the congress is linked to one of the main challenges facing humanity: the search for new forms of food production and how biotechnology can contribute.

The meeting, which runs until Wednesday, includes seven symposiums, among them one devoted to aquatic biotechnology. Enzyme technologies, bioproducts for agriculture and the applications of this discipline in the improvement of plants are some of the topics to be addressed in the other symposiums.
