No matter how much governments like the United States and the hegemonic press question the efficacy and values of young people trained in Cuba in medical specialties, their contributions to the world are unquestionable.

The newspaper La Jornada reported that close to 2,000 Mexicans have studied medicine and some specialty in Cuba.

They did so as part of the program of the Latin American School of Medicine, a prestigious institution founded more than two decades ago.

According to the source, the procedure was suspended in 2018, but as of 2021 it is possible for Mexicans to study in the largest of the Antilles, with official scholarships.

The newspaper recalled that this is a strategy of the government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to address the deficit in health services, especially in remote regions.

Today, mostly incorporated into public hospitals, young Mexican medical graduates in Cuba provide valuable care to their compatriots.

Quite a few confess to having suffered marginalization from private institutions for graduating in the Caribbean nation, but they defend their teachings in Havana and other cities.

With scarce material resources and depending on physical examinations and conversations with patients, doctors who graduated in Cuba have met the expectations of those who approached them, many of whom they visited at their homes.

Because preventive medicine and the family doctor are key principles in Cuba.

Nearly 40,000 young people from more than 140 nations completed seven years of studies in Cuba, free of charge, and are now practicing in their countries of origin, where they were asked to return.

The Caribbean nation stands out in the training of competent human resources, under the prism of science, with a vision in which man and the interests of the population are decisive.

Cuba's initiative to take in young people of scarce resources to qualify as health professionals has been praised, in spite of negative campaigns by the corporate press.

That perfidy continues, as the U.S. accuses the Cuban government of human trafficking, allegedly exploiting its doctors when they go abroad.

Tens of thousands of graduates from other countries attest to the falsity of this accusation and to the fact that the Latin American School of Medicine and other Cuban universities are synonymous with professional excellence and human solidarity.
