Argentinian Public TV will broadcast the last program of the emblematic cycle "Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo". The authorities of the channel decided to exclude it from its programming, a measure that has provoked rejection, but not surprise, given the government's intention to do away with public media and the denialist attitude of president Javier Milei about the military dictatorship.

Let us recall that at the beginning of this month the authorities announced, by decree, the intervention for one year of the state-owned media, which includes radio, television and the news agency TELAM, among others.

Moreover, the President's position on the civil-military dictatorship that prevailed in the South American nation and caused tens of thousands of victims, including the dead, tortured, disappeared and exiled, is well known.

For Milei and his vice-president Victoria Virrarruel, it was not a genocide what happened during the dictatorship, but a war against what they call subversive groups, in which certain excesses were committed.

Now a program of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association, whose members have historically claimed for those who disappeared during that period from 1976 to 1983, is taken off the air.

Since its emergence in defiance of repression in April 1977, this movement has denounced in particular the abduction of babies who were handed over to wealthy families allied to the military coup leaders.

Wearing their characteristic white headscarves, every Thursday these women make the rounds around the Pyramid of May in the center of Buenos Aires, the capital. The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo are a symbol of the Argentine people's resistance to the atrocities committed during that sad period of Argentina's history.

The Association regretted the measure, which it described as unjust, and pointed out that they will continue with their struggle and will remain in the Plaza de Mayo.

Since January 2008, this program was broadcasted with contents related to the struggle for "memory, truth and justice", and of great impact for a great part of the citizenship. Now Milei attacks this emblematic movement that has made history in the country and is internationally recognized for its struggle for the right to life, dignity and freedom.
