Havana, May 21 (RHC) -- Cuban pianist and composer, Aldo López-Gavilán, will star an online concert Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m. Cuba time, on TV, radio and the social media.
Considered a jazz fusion icon in the Caribbean nation, López-Gavilán echoes the hashtags #EstamosContigo #MusicosPorCuba, an initiative that since March 24 has brought good music to homes in social isolation by COVID-19. A graduate of the Manuel Saumell and Amadeo Roldán Music Schools in Cuba, López Gavilán completed his training at the London Academy of Music in the UK and has established himself as a leading classical music and jazz player.
The online concert schedule opened on Monday with Annie Garcés and her group, followed by the rhythm of jazz and Gastón Joya and his ensemble, as well as rap by Adversario, and then it will close on Friday with an afternoon of ‘trova’, consisting of a remix of various exponents of the genre. The online concerts have the support of the Culture Ministry (Mincult) and the Cuban Music and Radio and TV institutes, as well as La Rueda Films, RTV Comercial and other collaborators.
More than thirty performers and ensembles have joined the initiative, such as the Duo Espiral, the Habanero Septet, Omara Portuondo and the Failde Orchestra, Alejandro Falcón and Cubadentro, Adrián Berazaín, David Blanco, Buena Fe and Luna Manzanares. (With information from Prensa Latina)
