Havana, July 14 (RHC)-- The Network of Artists and Intellectuals in Defense of Humanity has called on goodwill people around the world to stay alert and oppose Washington’s hegemony and its imperialist appetite. They warned against the implications of a presumed ‘humanitarian intervention’ in Cuba, promoted from Washington, using the Covid-19 pandemic as a pretext.
The network of artists and intellectuals in defense of humanity highlights Cuba’s achievements in the fight against covid-19, including the development of five vaccine candidates and the health assistance provided to some 50 nations and territories the world over.
‘While Cuba works toward saving lives, the so-called ‘humanitarian interventions’ imposed by the United States translate into military interventions, destruction, human rights violations and death,’ read the statement, noting that the US government is intent on generating chaos in Cuba.
They stress that to that aim, the current US administration of President Joe Biden has don’t nothing to repeal the 243 coercive measures adopted by his predecessor Donald Trump against Cuba amidst covid-19. The Network of Artists and Intellectuals in Defense of Humanity then urge president Biden to fulfil his campaign promise to repeal those sanctions and move toward improving US-Cuba ties, as it is the expressed will of the vast majority of the international community represented at the UN general assembly, which year after year passes a resolution in support of Cuba and against the US blockade.
The Network of Artists and Intellectuals in Defense of Humanity also expressed its full support for the measures adopted by the Cuban government and people in defense of their national sovereignty and their inalienable right to build a prosperous, socialist society.
The statement ended by emphasizing that ‘Cuba shall prevail over US imperialist plots, as no world power can ever defeat the brave, courageous people.’
