Buenos Aires hosts 1st fair of Cuban book and culture
Buenos Aires, December 20 (RHC)-- Argentinian intellectuals participated over the weekend in the 1st edition of the Fair of Cuban Book and Culture, held at Casa de la Amistad Cuba-Argentina in Buenos Aires.
Organized by the Solidarity with Cuba Movement in the South American nation –known as MasCuba, the Ministry of Culture of Argentina, the Cuban Embassy in the South American nations and Acercandonos Ediciones publishing house, the event served as an opportunity for residents of and visitors to Buenos Aires to learn firsthand about Cuba’s rich culture and traditions.
The program started Saturday with a chess tournament, followed by the presentation of the book ‘Diario de Turín, la solidaridad en tiempos de pandemia’. Written by Cuban journalist Enrique Ubieta, it deals with the work and the personal experiences of Cuban health professionals, members of the Henry Reeve International Brigade of Doctors Specializing in Serious Epidemics and Disaster Situations, who offered their services in Turín, Italy, as part of Cuba’s cooperation with other nations in the fight against Covid-19.
The text was presented by Jorge Kreyness, Foreign Relations Secretary of the Communist Party of Argentina.
Other titles presented in the framework of the 1st edition of the Fair of Cuban Book and Culture included ‘Demócratas y Republicanos, 25 años de agresiones contra Cuba’, written by Luis Méndez, and presented by Paula Klachko, a member of the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity.
Other highlights of the two-day event included panel discussions about Cuba’s reality, the 1961 Cuban literacy campaign, the latest destabilization plots orchestrated from US soil to destroy the Cuban Revolution and Cuban science’s achievements amidst Covid-19, as well as a concert by the band Changui Guararey. Exponents of traditional Cuban music, the band is formed by Cuban musicians, who reside in Argentina.
