Ballet Español de Cuba
Havana, Feb. 8 (RHC)-- Ballet Español de Cuba will start celebrations on its 35th anniversary with the staging of a classic, the show ‘Aquel brujo amor,’ from the dance troupe’s vast repertoire.
The performances will take place February 11th, 12th and 13th at the Avellaneda Hall of Teatro Nacional de Cuba.
With general direction by first dancer and choreographer Eduardo Veitía, the show features Spanish flamenco singer Chelo Pantoja and the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro Enrique Pérez Mesa, as guest artists.
In statements to the press in Havana, Chelo Pantoja said she is happy to be here in Cuba. ‘Cuba and Spain are two sister nations united by strong cultural ties: son and flamenco,’ she said.
Director of Ballet Español de Cuba, Eduardo Veitía said that he created the choreography of ‘Aquel brujo amor,’ based on the piece ‘El amor brujo’ by Spanish composer Manuel de Falla.
The choreographic work had its world premiere in 1996, on occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of Falla, who is considered by many as one of Spain's most important musicians of the first half of the 20th century.
Founded by prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, Ballet Español de Cuba has a varied repertoire that combines flamenco, classical ballet and contemporary dance.
Veitía said other activities on occasion of the dance troupe’s 35th anniversary include the 3rd International Festival of Spanish Dance and Flamenco, set for next June at Teatro Nacional de Cuba.
