The famous Russian Army’s Alexandrov Academic Singing and Dancing Ensemble will perform at Havana’s National Theater on Saturday.

The exceptional troupe, known around the world for its mastery of Russian folk dances and choral music, is the largest of its kind in the European Giant. It was set up in 1928 and its repertoire includes more than two thousand folk, popular and religious music and dance pieces. Its performances are characterized by the mastery and precision of choral music interwoven with the colorful, spectacular and versatile traditional Russian dances.

International recognitions for the ensemble include The Global Award, the Prize of the French Records Academy, the Mongol Combat Merit Order from Tchekoslovakia, the Red Star, and the Award of the NOK Dutch Company for the sale of its albums and the Academy’s Honorary Award. The famous Russian group reportedly sings two or three songs in the language of the country where they are visiting to actively relate with the audience and as a kind of musical present.

In 1993 the ensemble became a heavy weight in pop culture, having concerts in Helsinki’s Senate Square with the Finish band Leningrad Cowboys for an audience of 70 thousand people; in Lustgarten, Berlin, it also had a grand concert to bid farewell to the Red Army from Germany
