Havana, August 21 (RHC)-- Gente de Zona, the most famous Cuban urban duo in recent times, offered a concert on Thursday night at the intersection of 23rd Street and Malecon, in Havana, after two years without a public appearance on the island. The musicians are in Havana to record their next CD called Visualize.
Director Alexander Delgado said the concert was a gift to the audience and also for him, because his birthday is on Friday. “I am very excited about the reuniting with the people, with people from different neighborhoods, to whom I owe what I am, added the co-author of Bailando, one of the hottest hits in Spanish in the last 10 years.
Both musicians thanked their fans on the island for supporting them over the years and reiterated their willingness to do a national tour in coordination with Cuban cultural institutions.
Gente de Zona received its first international success following their collaboration with Enrique Iglesias and Decemer Bueno on his 2014 release "Bailando". The track was awarded three Latin Grammy awards and received widespread international airplay.
On Latin Airplay, Cuban duo Gente de Zona lands its first No. 1 as a lead act, with the ascent of “La Gozadera” featuring Marc Anthony (2-1; up 30 percent in audience to 13.6 million impressions in the week ending Aug. 16). The uptempo track also climbs to No. 1 on Tropical Songs and Latin Rhythm Airplay -- scoring its first chart-topper as a lead on both tallies, according to Billboard website news.
