Lima, August 9 (RHC)-- Wrestling gave Cuba yet another Gold Medal, this time, it was the “Herradura’s Giant” Mijain Lopez in the Men’s Greco-Roman 130kg. 3-time Olympic Champion, and willing to write a new chapter in Olympic Wresting history, the Pinar del Rio native has become a legend in continental sports by becoming the first athlete to win five Pan-Am Wrestling titles.
Santo Domingo 2003, Rio 2007, Guadalajara 2011, Toronto 2015 and now Lima 2019, are the editions of Pan-Am Games in which Lopez has become champion. In the Peruvian capital, Mijain Lopez’ journey to the Gold began with an easy victory over Argentinian Luciano del Rio (by technical superiority) in Quarter-Finals.
In the Semi-Finals, Lopez faced another Cuban, Chilean-nationalized Yasmani Acosta, to whom Mijain dominated 4-0. In the Finals, just one minute was enough to get the win against Venezuelan Moises Perez by technical superiority.
