Cuban boxers work hard towards world championships

Havana, October 19 (RHC/JIT)-- The eight boxers who will represent Cuba at the World Boxing Championship in Belgrade 2021 are satisfying the purposes of the preparation started last October 12 in Uzbekistan, where they will remain until October 22nd.

"The technical collective has evaluated as positive the form shown by each of the athletes, among whom reigns great motivation," said via internet the president of the federation of that sport on the Island, Alberto Puig de la Barca.

He explained that they cover two daily sessions, the morning one dedicated to strength training, equipment and other actions in the gym, and the afternoon one reserved for sparring against the best exponents at home.

"They are five rounds, as we foresaw for this stage, facing alternately the first and second Uzbek figures, including the supercomplete Olympic champion Bakhodir Jalolov, who has crossed gloves with the cruiser Julio Cesar La Cruz," he added.

Puig also said that they take full advantage of the excellent conditions created by their hosts to ensure the work-rest relationship, and comply with the measures established to prevent covid-19, including frequent PCR examinations.

The team led by Rolando Acebal will travel to the Serbian capital on October 22, two dates before the start of a competition that will have a new format of 13 divisions and the payment in cash as an attractive complement to the medals.

Cuba, in addition to Julio Cesar, will have at its disposal other proven top athletes such as Roniel Iglesias and Andy Cruz, registered in 71 and 63.5 kilograms, respectively, and the three-time gold medalist Lazaro Alvarez, who will fight in the 60 kilograms.

The cast is completed with Osvel Caballero (57 kg), Kevin Brown (67 kg), Yoenlis Feliciano Hernandez (75 kg) and Herich Ruiz (86 kg), and will seek to overcome as comfortably as possible the harvest of a scepter, a silver and a bronze minted in the Ekaterinburg 2019 version.
