Havana, November 2 (PL)-- Cuban boxing will try today to add its first six bronze medals in the World Championships of Belgrade 2021, with the outings of an equal number of representatives to the Stark Arena.
Cuba will be represented by Osvel Caballero (57 kilograms), Andy Cruz (63.5), Kevin Brown (67), Yoenlis Hernandez (75), Herich Ruiz (86) and captain Julio Cesar La Cruz (92).
Caballero will face Mexico's Miguel Vega for the medal; Cruz will face Uzbekistan's Mujibillo Tursunov; Brown will face Georgia's Lasha Guruli and Hernandez will face Croatia's Gabrijel Veocic.
Four-time world champion and double Olympic gold medalist La Cruz will cross gloves against Serbia's Sadam Magomedov and Ruiz against Turkey's Burak Aksin.
On Monday, the Caribbean team reached 16 wins and only two losses and kept six fighters in competition.
The first success corresponded to Caballero, who hit with greater precision and always kept the initiative to beat Armenian Artur Bazeyan 5-0, four judges saw him win by decision of 30-27 and one by 29-28.
Brown then beat India's Akash 5-0 with a quadruple 29-28 and a 30-27 verdict, while Hernandez beat India's Sumit 5-0 (triple 29-28 and a double 30-27).
Olympic champion and two-time world titleholder Cruz completed the perfect day for Cuba with a 5-0 win over American Vershaun Lee with a quintuple 30-27 decision.
