Guadeloupe-2022

Basse-Terre, June 29 (PL) - The First Caribbean Games kick off this Wednesday in Guadeloupe, on a day in which only the opening ceremony of the event will be held.

A small country like Guadeloupe assumed the responsibility of the debut, and everyone is crossing their fingers so that the Caribbean sports festival is as good as possible to close the geographical cycle from the smallest to the largest (Caribbean, Central American, Pan American and Olympic Games).

So many years of waiting to finally have a regional event like this one cannot be thrown away, even if it is a modest event, with some disciplines that are not the best known and others with a noticeable reduction in their capacity, but the important thing is that athletes from some 30 countries will compete until July 3.

The spirit is to compete in the purely Caribbean sphere, and the best thing is that the stars of the future will do it, since no competitor will be older than 23 years old.

In the case of Cuba, it is expected to dominate the general classification, although the directors never gave a forecast in terms of titles.

Its status as the largest island in the Caribbean merits it, even when the disciplines involved are not the most similar.

Several members of the Cuban delegation already shone last year in the First Pan American Junior Games and the best is expected from them, as is the case of several representatives of athletics, judo and swimming. In particular, 25 athletes shined in the Colombian competition, winning five gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals.

The Caribbean party is about to begin, let's hope that everything goes well and manages to stay in the international sports calendar.
