Havana, July 27 (JIT) - Cuban Edisnel Enrique Corrales finished in fifth place in the 81 kg division at the Pan American Weightlifting Championship in Bogota 2022, Colombia.

The Cuban lifted four of his six exercises and totaled 306 kg, behind Colombian Gustavo Adolfo Maldonado (329 kg), Venezuelan Darvin Castro (324), Mexican Juniel Muñoz (316) and Dominican Ray Reyes (315).

The best performance of our representative took place in the lunge, when he placed fourth with lifts of 165 and 171 kg, before failing with 175 on the bar.

If he had succeeded in that last attempt, he could have made it to the podium, which was ultimately won by Maldonado (186 kg), Castro (177 kg) and Reyes (174 kg).

In the snatch, the gold, silver and bronze medals went, in order, to Castro (147 kg), Muñoz (146 kg) and Maldonado (143 kg). Corrales finished fifth after lifts of 130 and 135 kg, and a failure over 140 kg.

Cuba accumulated two silver medals, obtained by Arley Calderon in the 61 kg, and two bronze medals obtained by Osmel Argote in the 55 kg. Franchesca Simón in the 45 kg and Raidel Machado in the 55 kg also competed.

This Wednesday, Marina Rodríguez (LHA) and Regla Morales (CMG) in the 71 kg, as well as Melissa Aguilera (GRA) and Yeniuska Mirabal (GTM) in the 76 kg will be competing for the island. In the men's division, Olfides Sáez (CFG) and Ariolvis Begué (GTM) will compete in the 89 kg weight class.

This event is the second and last opportunity to add points to the classification ranking for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
