Havana, August 1 (RHC)-- Uruguayan soccer player Luis Suarez received a huge prodigal son's welcome on his return to the Nacional team, in his country's league, where he began his brilliant career decades ago.
After so many comings and goings in search of a squad in which to play until the World Championship next November, the tricolor team finally opened its arms to him.
Without receiving or agreeing to proposals in Europe, where he played in elite clubs and won a brilliant list of honors. The eventual return of the injured player to the Uruguayan courts generated for weeks expectations that transcended the fans themselves.
From early Sunday morning, fervent fans followed Suárez's path from his arrival at Carrasco International Airport, followed by the journey in a vehicle along the capital's avenues to the Gran Parque Central.
Once at the stadium, Suárez signed the contract with the club and was received by political figures from different sectors and in an improvised speech he expressed his aspirations to fight for all the tournaments ahead, the Clausura, the Uruguayan Cup, the South American Cup and eventually the Libertadores Cup.
Suárez, who is 35 years old, will play for the last time as a member of the Uruguayan national team in a World Soccer Championship, this time in Qatar.
