Cuban women's handball team
Havana, October 5 (JIT) - The Cuban women's team won its first victory at the Santo Domingo 2022 Caribbean Handball Cup in the Dominican Republic.
The victory was achieved on Tuesday against Mexico with a comfortable slate of 33 goals to 23, after a 15-10 first half.
This is the first victory in the tournament for Jorge Coll's students, after a draw in their debut against Puerto Rico.
For the Antillean team, the experienced Arisleidy Márquez, who with eight goals scored almost a quarter of the total achieved by the islanders, stood out.
Rosa Leal and the talented Nahomy Rodríguez contributed five goals each. Offensively, Melissa Arias and Ángela Amorós also stood out, scoring four goals apiece.
Defensively, the Cubans were not very demanding and only suffered three two-minute exclusions caused by flagrant fouls.
The group phase will conclude for our team next Thursday with a match against the locals, in which they will try to keep their undefeated record.
This Wednesday will be a rest day for them. The men will see action against the representatives of the Dominican Republic.
