Havana, November 11 (PL) -- Girona maintained its place at the top of Spanish soccer today by defeating Rayo Vallecano 2-1, thanks to a late goal by Brazilian midfielder Savio.
The La Liga sensation reached 11 successes and reaffirmed its position at the top of the overall standings in a complicated duel that ended in the 65th minute with the 19-year-old's fourth goal.
After this victory, Girona reached 34 points and at least for this week will not be reached by Real Madrid (29), who still have their match against Valencia pending.
Rayo Vallecano, on the other hand, conceded its third defeat and could not move from ninth place with 18 points, two points away from the nearest place to European competitions.
