Havana, December 27 (RHC) -- The famous Coliseum of the Ciudad Deportiva (Sports City) was once again vibrant on Tuesday as it hosted the cultural show where the best Cuban athletes of a year full of sports competitions were honored.

The gala was dedicated to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, the greatest promoter of the Cuban sports movement, the 65th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, the day of the educator and the figure of José Ramón Fernández, who was Honorary President for Life of the Cuban Olympic Committee.

In the presence of State and Government leaders, sports executives, leaders of mass organizations, ambassadors, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba, sports glories and family members, the honorees descended from the Olympus to receive their awards amidst the applause of the grateful spectators.

Outstanding teachers and sports professors handed out the awards in an evening that reached its climax when world champions Yarisledis Cirilo (canoe) and Luis Orta (Greco-Roman wrestling), elected the best of the year in their respective sexes, came on stage.
