Havana, January 26 (Jit) - The Cuban national team will play in group A of the CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2026 Fifa World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The team of the Greater of the Antilles will again face Honduras, the strongest rival in the section, against which it played two matches in the CONCACAF Nations League 2023 with a draw and a loss.
Completing the section are Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Antigua and Barbuda, the latter presumably the opponent with whom they will play for the second ticket to the third round.
The top two teams from the six groups will advance to the final stage (12 in total), in which three four-team brackets will be formed.
The leaders of these three groups will qualify for the World Cup, and the two best runners-up will advance to the playoffs.
The host teams of the World Cup have tickets, which opens up possibilities for the Cubans, although it looks difficult considering that there are quality teams such as Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.
This stage will be played on Fifa dates in June 2024 and 2025. The next stage will be played in September, October and November 2025.
