Havana, Jul 9 (JIT) The Cuban women's under-12 softball team from the Pinar del Río municipality of La Palma will play a doubleheader this Wednesday as they make their debut in the 2024 Latin American Little League Tournament in Guánica, Puerto Rico.

According to information from the technical meeting, the team coached by Fidel Corrales will first take the field against the US Virgin Islands and then face the host team from the municipality of Guayama.

In this competition, which will be played under the Robin-round system, the Mexican squad and another Puerto Rican team from Guánica are also enrolled.

Cuba and their rivals are aiming to obtain the ticket to the World Series of the category, in the United States 2024.

For this debut against the US Virgin Islands, mentor Corrales must hand the ball to Yelenis Ferro, the best player of the Cuban championship, in which La Palma won the title for the second consecutive year against the Bayamo girls in the grand finale.

Adapted to pitching double plays in Cuban tournaments and serving as the third bat in the line-up, Ferro could also take the mound in the second inning against the Puerto Ricans of Guánica.
