Miami, July 15 (RHC)-- Police were forced to intervene and makes arrests after dozens of soccer fans crashed through the barriers and sought to gain entry to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
Ahead of kickoff multiple arrests were made after a number of fans broke through a gate at the southeast of the stadium. Police were forced to temporarily close that side of the venue and a logjam formed with anxious fans with tickets desperately trying to enter.
Fans on the ground, in sweltering conditions, suffered the effects of the disruption. Kickoff was pushed back as a result, delayed for more than an hour.
Hard Rock Stadium, where tickets to the final started around $2,000, was overwhelmed by a crush of fans who pushed past security at the entrance, leading officials to shut all gates.
Fans were seen climbing over barriers and crawling into vents to get into the stadium. Ultimately, many were reportedly allowed inside without showing tickets.
The game, when it finally got underway in Miami, was won by Argentina, which defeated Colombia by a score of 1 to nothing.
