Damián Gómez-Eblis Veranes
Havana, Oct 3 (RHC) The Cuban duo of Damian Gomez and Eblis Veranes advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's North, Central America and Caribbean Tour (Norceca) beach volleyball tournament in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
According to the Norceca website, Gomez and Veranes achieved two victories in group B, 2-0 (21-19 and 21-17) against the Guardado brothers, and 2-1 (19-21, 21-14 and 21-13) against the U.S. duo of Priimi-Wieczorek.
The actions of section B will conclude with the match between the pairs of El Salvador and the United States, while the pair from the largest of the Antilles will not take the court due to a bye and will do so in the quarterfinals with an opponent yet to be defined.
Cuba was also present with the female duo Maykelín Drik-Mileidy Paret, but did not have the same luck after falling twice in the B key, first 0-2 (12-21 and 11-21) against the Virgin Islands duo Austin-Brucker, and then against the United States duo of Whalen-Phillips, with a 0-2 slate (11-21 and 16-21).
Maykein and Mileidy will also be in this bye and are waiting for the result of the closing match between the Virgin Islands and the United States.
As foreseen, the two Cuban pairs will participate in the U-23 phase of the Norceca circuit when they finish the current competition and with the same scenario, from next 7 to 9, in search of quotas for the II Junior Pan American Games of Asuncion 2025.
Gómez and Veranes, and Maykeín and Mileidy are coached by Walfrido Salas and Iván Anibal Dipoté, men's and women's coaches, respectively.
