Cuba wins U-15 tournament

Havana, Dec 10 (JIT) - In an attractive pitchers' duel, Cuba defeated the host Bahamas 1x0 and won the title in the U-15 Caribbean Baseball Cup, held at the Andre Rodger Stadium in Nassau.

Left-hander Carlos Sarduy came out on top in a close encounter with Bahamian starter Colton Cubbaje, who also came up with a good repertoire of deliveries.

Sarduy pitched six innings with 12 strikeouts and only one hit allowed. This was his second victory of the tournament, adding to the one achieved in his debut, when Cuba knocked out the U.S. Virgin Islands, 12x0.

Thus, the left-hander from Cardenas closed the contest with 20 strikeouts in 10 innings, in which he allowed only two singles.

The winning run came in the fifth inning, driven in by a double by middle infielder and ninth baseman Damian Diaz against Cubbaje, who covered 6.0 innings with only two hits allowed.

The host pitcher also acted as the fifth batter and hit one of his team's two singles.

It is an excellent end to the year for national baseball. This result could motivate the team that will represent the country in the first Series of the Americas, scheduled to take place in Nicaragua from January 24 to 30, 2025, with the presence of six countries.
