Havana, Jan 2 (PL) - Cuba aims to increase its places at the Junior Pan American Games of Asuncion 2025, according to a press release published on the digital site Jit.
So far it has secured the presence of 54 athletes, distributed in men's handball (14), canoeing (10), cycling (3), skating (3), volleyball (24), and beach volleyball (4), said the general director of high performance of the National Sports Institute, José Antonio Miranda.
The executive commented that quotas will be disputed in 11 other sports in the next four months and that seven others have not yet made public the manuals of their classification formulas.
He also ratified that the multi-sport event scheduled for August 9 to 13 this year will be a great opportunity to evaluate part of the reserve for the next two Olympic cycles and to obtain the largest number of places for the Pan American Games of Lima 2027.
The specialist recalled that the competition will award tickets to the champions of the individual events and to the countries that lead the team sports, as it happened in the first edition of 2021, organized in Colombia.
On that occasion, Cuba was represented by a delegation of 212 athletes and placed fifth, thanks to a harvest of 29 gold, 19 silver, and 22 bronze medals.
