Brazil to Host First World Indigenous Games

Brazil will host in September the 1st Indigenous World Games with the participation of 2,000 athletes from 30 countries, including Quechua, Guaraní, Aymara and Inca ethnic groups in Latin America.

The organization is in charge of Brazil's Inter-Tribal Indian Committee and the Ministry of Sports, announced an initial investment of 60 million reais, some $ 22 US million dollars, stressed the secretary of these games, Héctor Franco.

Athletes will compete in disciplines of knowledge of these aboriginal peoples such as archery, canoeing, swimming, javelin, football and athletics, and the event will feature various native languages translators to ensure proper communication among all participants.

The representative of UN Indigenous Rights and promoter of this competition, Marcos Terena, highlighted the fully persistence of the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, for carrying out these games.

Terena highlighted the example of Morales in promoting and representing the grandeur of what the Indigenous World Games will be.

With some 270 aboriginal tribes and 817,963 indigenous inhabitants (0.47% of its population), Brazil ranks as the highest representative for this competition.
