Washington, April 2, (RHC)-- US President Donald Trump has asked Republicans in the Senate to resort to the so called nuclear option and approve “tougher” migratory laws.

“Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws now,” he said Sunday on Twitter. “No more DACA deal!” he added.

In several twits, Trump asserted that border patrol agents are not allowed to properly do their job at the border because of what he described as “ridiculous liberal laws”, and urged Republicans to act.

He insisted that many of the people entering illegally into US territory are trying to take advantage of DACA.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, was enacted under the Obama administration and has allowed children brought illegally to the United States to remain in the country and legally study and work.It has shielded more than 800,000 young undocumented immigrants from deportation.

The Trump administration ended the program in September, but gave Congress six months to come up with a permanent plan for the program recipients. That deadline has not been met.

The so-called “nuclear option” that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell may invoke, allows the Senate to approve bills by a simple majority of 51 votes, rather than the 60-vote majority normally required to end debate.

On several occasions, legislators from both sides of the aisle have presented Trump with proposals to solve the Dreamer situation once and for all.

However, the president has not accepted any of them, either because they do not include enough funds for his wall with Mexico or because they fail to end the current family reunification system.

On Sunday, Trump also said Mexico is doing very little to stop people from flowing into the United States and threatened to end NAFTA, which the US is currently renegotiating with Mexico and Canada.
