Quito, March 7 (RHC-PL) -- The attorneys representing those affected by the pollution caused by the oil company Chevron said that the adverse verdict issued by a U.S. judge will not prevent the implementation by other countries of a previous ruling by an Ecuadorian court.

Lawyer Juan Pablo Sáenz said that the verdict of the U.S. judge is applied only in the United States, where the lawyers of the plaintiffs have not even taken actions to try to collect the compensation money.

Meanwhile, Steven Dozinger, one of the lawyers representing those affected, considered that US Judge Lewis Kaplan's decision would have no impact on countries like Brazil and Canada, where steps have been taken to implement the judgment of Lago Agrio.

“No U.S. judge has the power to ignore the judgment of a case that has previously been followed in Ecuador or elsewhere,” Dozinger affirmed, and accused Kaplan of acting more like a prosecutor than an impartial judge.
