Managua, April 6 (RHC)-- Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada has reaffirmed that the government delegation in the "Negotiation Table for Understanding and Peace" fulfills the agenda approved by the parties.

"Our presence is permanent, punctual and responsible," Moncada said upon his arrival at the negotiations meeting in Managua, adding that "we are going to continue talking, discussing and debating the agenda items that have already been agreed upon."

Nicaragua's top diplomat also expressed President Daniel Ortega's willingness to comply with all the points approved during the dialogue process.  "Our delegation will not leave the table.  We will be present debating, talking, discussing and approving the issues which we must approve [in orden to] contribute to the solution of our country's problems, contribute to peace, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence in our country," Denis Moncada said.

President Ortega invited the opposition in 2018 to participate in round table peace talks to resolve any political difference.  This was conceived as a way to reach a mutual understanding.  The dialogue began by establishing a "road map", which required the release of violent protestors, who were detained during demonstrations against social security reform.

The opposition Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy (CAJD) has requested to advance the presidential elections and include the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) as "guarantors" at the peace talks

Regarding the 2018 protests, the International Red Cross delivered a "consensual" list of detainees who are expected to be released soon. So far, while the Nicaraguan government recognizes the arrest of 341 people, the opposition contrasts the number, claiming that there are at least 802 detainees.
