Havana, May 1 (RHC) –- The working class and working people of Cuba, Venezuela, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and Mexico on Thursday took to the streets of major cities in their countries to mark International Workers Day.
In the Colombian capital, Bogotá, various organizations and worker federations rallied in support of unemployed farmers, with a huge mobilization in the Plaza de Toros La Santamaria and the other in the Nieves Square, from where teachers, workers, doctors and students marched to the Plaza of Bolivar, in the heart of the city.
At least 10 different rallies took place throughout Mexico. In the federal district, unions marched to demand socio-economic reforms in the benefit of the working class and poorest sectors of the nation.
In Bolivia, President Evo Morales headed a march organized by the Central Obrera Boliviana (COB) and other unions in that South American country. At the event, the head of state, announced several executive decrees, among them a wage increase agreed upon by the Government and the COB.
Uruguayan workers also staged a demonstration in the center of the capital, Montevideo, under the slogan "More conquests to move forward."
Meanwhile in Paraguay, the derogation of the pro-privatization Act of Public-Private Partnership and a 25-percent salary increase were among the central demands of demonstrators in that South American nation.
In Venezuela, a massive march was also held through the main avenues of the capital city, Carcas, to celebrate day of the international working class and also to show support for the government of President Nicolas Maduro and its efforts to ensure better conditions for Venezuelan workers.
